SPECIAL DELEGATION: VINTAGE DER (V-DER)

With the release of FAA Order 8100.8C Change 5 (or later), Appendix 9 in 2009, the FAA established a new classification "Vintage" Designated Engineering Representative (V-DER) .  This special delegation gives V-DERs data approval authority for Repairs and Alterations, limited to specific airplane models that meet the FAA definition of "Vintage" Airplanes, and for which the designee has documented experience.

On July 12, 2011, Terry received FAA delegation as V-DER in three new disciplines.
Terry's DER disciplines now include...

DER disciplines without limitation to any aircraft types.
DER: Engines
DER: Powerplant Installations

V-DER disciplines limited to Vintage Airplanes
V-DER: Structural
  V-DER: Mechanical Systems and Equipment
V-DER: Electrical Systems and Equipment

FAA DEFINITION OF "VINTAGE" AIRPLANE
(and specific limitations to Terry's V-DER authority)

For the purposes of Terry's authorization, the referenced FAA Order defines “Vintage Airplanes” as those airplanes certificated under Civil Air Regulations Part 3 (CAR 3) or earlier certification basis, and manufactured before 1965 that meet the following parameters:
a. Single-Engine
b. Maximum five-place
c. Maximum 7,000 pounds gross takeoff weight
d. Nonpressurized, and
e. Noncomposite metallic or wood primary structure

Note: Vintage Engines are all radial engines and all other piston engines manufactured before 1973.

This allows Terry to support Stearmans, Wacos, Stinsons, Cubs, Champs, Taylorcrafts, Porterfields, and many, many others.  If you are in question, call for clarification.
